Beithe Shawlette

It's summer again.   Bravo!
Next week Julie and I are going to Black Sheep Gathering in Eugene, Oregon.  Then we're going to head over to her sister in law's place in Washington.  I made her this shawlette as a hostess gift.

I drum carded batts and then separated them into rolags for woolen spinning.  My two ply yarn came out to about a sport weight.  Beithe is a free pattern from Knitty.com.

FIFTY SEVEN

Today is my 57th birthday.  I've been sitting here in my bed watching the sky change as the sun rises.  I feel grateful to be alive.  Life is good.  Not too much drama.  My kids are okay.  I'm in love with my family and friends and I'm pretty sure they love me back.  What else could I ask for?

RAIN!!!!!!! That's what I'm asking for:  RAIN.
It's almost always raining on my birthday.  It's hard to dispute scientific evidence regarding climate change, but I just need to hide my head in the sand and believe that the rain will come back and that this is just a fluke.  February will be wetter, I tell myself.
So, in lieu of gifts, please send rain.

In lieu of rain, Julie gave me one of her needle felted animals.  He shares many of my interests like spinning, drinking coffee, and acrylic paint.

Tour de fleece 2013

Here's what I've spun so far.  I've been spinning on my wheel and spindles.  The white is Cormo and BFL and will eventually be dyed.  The green and violet is Rambouillet, the brown is CVM, the multicolored yarns are spun from batts I made on my drum carder.  Why is fiber so luscious?  Why are spinning tools so cool?
